Investing in show jumping horses
Investment
Invest in talent. Share in its future.
At VR International Sport Horses we bring investment and equestrian sport together through development projects for young show jumpers. We select horses with potential, manage their training and sporting career, and look for sales opportunities when they reach the right moment.
Our thesis
How we aim to create value
Selection, training and experience in the ring can broaden a horse’s commercial prospects. Our work focuses on identifying its qualities, developing its preparation and documenting its progress. The sale depends on that progress and on finding the right buyer.
-
Identifying its qualities
We identify young horses with strong bloodlines, above all on the dam’s side, and with the talent and potential for competition show jumping.
-
Developing its preparation
We develop their abilities through progressive, individual training that respects their own pace.
-
Documenting its progress
Rounds and sporting information that allow the horse’s stage to be judged with more to go on than a photograph, including when it is sold.
Our criteria
Each horse’s bloodlines, in plain sight
We select on bloodlines and on individual qualities. These are the lines of the horses that currently make up the project. Benjamín Fernández Alanzor leads their sporting development and provides a first-hand assessment of their progress, both at work and in the ring.

How we measure results
The return on a deal is calculated from the money paid in and the amount received on sale, after the relevant costs. The holding period matters too: a higher sale price does not guarantee a higher profit.
Costs included in every calculation
- Purchase and acquisition costs
- Training and upkeep
- Veterinary care and farrier
- Travel and competition
- Insurance, where applicable
- Marketing and sales commission
- Net result
- Receipts − paymentsWhat is received minus every payment attributable to the horse, with all costs included and any exclusions shown.
- Return on capital
- Result ÷ capitalThe result relative to the capital paid in. It is the return over the full cycle, from purchase to sale, not an annual return.
- Cash multiple
- Receipts ÷ capitalWhat is received relative to what was paid in: 1.00× means recovering exactly the capital contributed.
- Investor IRR
- Amounts and datesThe annual return based on each investor’s actual contributions and receipts, calculated from their own cash flows.
Co-investment
Invest through shares
Acquire shares in horses selected by our team. We share the upkeep costs and the profits generated both in competition and through the increase in value for their subsequent sale.
-
We select and manage
The team chooses the horse for its bloodlines and qualities, and takes care of its training, competition and sale.
-
We share the costs
Upkeep, training and competition costs are split according to your share.
-
We share the profits
What is generated in competition and by the increase in value on sale, in the same proportion.
Private presentation
The figures for each project, in private
Every project has its own budget, expected timeline and sale scenarios. We share them in a private, personalised presentation, with the assumptions and costs included.

One horse or a portfolio
If you represent a fund or are considering a professional investment, let’s talk about the kind of project you are looking for. A partnership can be structured around a single horse or a portfolio, with capital, management criteria and participation terms defined for each case.
What we share in every project
- Analysis per horseBudget, expected timeline and sale scenarios, with the assumptions and costs included.
- Monthly reportingCosts, cash position and the horse’s sporting progress, prepared by the team.
- Variance controlAccumulated spending against budget, and a reviewed sale timeline.
- Agreed decisionsWho approves expenses and the sale is defined before the project starts.
RiskThe value of a horse can fall. An injury, sporting progress other than expected or a later sale can lead to losses, including the total loss of capital. Returns, recovery of the contribution and the exit date are not guaranteed.
